For the session 2021-22, CBSE has divided the whole syllabus into two halves: 50% of the syllabus will be covered in each term.
The minimum mark required to pass a subject is 33%. Also, a candidate has to score an aggregate of 33% to pass the exam. Even if a candidate scores an aggregate of 33% but fails to secure 33% in any subject, then they will have to appear in the compartment exam. In addition, one has to score 33% marks separately in theory and practical exams. In 2021-22, the final marks will be calculated based on the marks obtained in the board exam and internal/project/practical papers. Also, grace marks are awarded on a scale of 2 to 5 in a subject.
Moreover, CBSE has released the subject-wise marking schemes for the compartment exam 2021 and board exam 2022. Students can find detailed PDFs from the official website. However, the new marking scheme of compartment exam 2022 is yet to be announced. Therefore, candidates can stay in touch with this portal for more updates.
On 17th June 2021, the Attorney General had submitted the revised marking scheme for CBSE class 12th in the Supreme Court. The scheme said that the current evaluations would be based on marks secured by the students in the 10th, 11th, and 12th pre-board classes. Furthermore, a certain percentage of marks were considered from each of these exams for the final estimation as given below:
Class 10th: 30% marks taken from the best of three subjects.
Class 11th: 30% of the total marks obtained in the final examination.
Class 12th: 40% of the marks obtained in unit tests, term, and practical exams.
These marks were added to the theory marks obtained in each subject of class 12th. Moreover, the students who were dissatisfied with this evaluation criteria were given the option to sit for a separate written examination held offline. Marks obtained in that offline exams were considered final.
CBSE has also released the subject-wise marking schemes for the compartment exams. Students can find detailed PDFs from the official website. However, the new marking scheme is yet to be announced for this year. Therefore, candidates can stay in touch with this portal for more updates.

CBSE class 12th term-1 exam ended on 22nd December 2021. The board is now expected to release the answer keys of all the subjects. After that, students can use the answer key to estimate the marks they might obtain. Until CBSE issues the official answer key, students can refer to the unofficial ones provided by different coaching academies.
Each question carries one mark, and incorrect and unattempted answers will fetch zero each. Note that the official answer keys issued by CBSE might also contain errors. Therefore keeping track of updates by CBSE regarding answer key and evaluation is necessary.

Class 12th board exam results play a decisive role in students' life about their choice of career. Alongside, they also have to cope up with peer pressure and family's expectations. The enormous stress might put all hard work in vain if the study and revision aren't planned properly. Let's go through some tips to avoid unnecessary stress cramming and excel in the final exams:
1. Start Preparing On-Time
If you are reading your chapters and notes for the first time just one week before the exam commencement, then only a miracle can save you from performing very poorly. The theory of studying overnight and excelling in the exam doesn't work with board examinations. Start preparing as soon as you receive the syllabus and be consistent throughout the year.
2. Practice Previous Year Questions
Analyse the previous years' questions and mark the areas from where questions have been asked consistently. Revise those parts harder. However, this doesn't imply ignoring the other areas. Completing and revising the whole syllabus is paramount.
3. Fix Targets
Fix short-term targets of completing topics or chapters. Please don't make them too complex to achieve. Fix them as per your capacity. Move on to the next only after finishing one.
4. Duration Doesn't Matter
It's not important to study 7-8 hours a day. You study for 5 hours and complete 3 chapters. Your friend studies for 8 hours and completes only two. Thus, your study hours turn out to be more efficient. How much of the syllabus you cover in a day, only that matters.
5. Identify Your Weak Areas
One who knows and accepts his weaknesses succeeds. Identity and work on your weak areas. Focus on them from the beginning of the academic session. Thus you will get the maximum time for your weaker areas. Even if you are unable to overcome it, try to ensure that you fetch at least some marks in the exam from that topic and not get a zero.
6. Take Sufficient Rest
An over-stressed brain never gives satisfactory results. Take breaks of 10 mins after every 1-2 hours of continuous study. You can read books, listen to some soothing music, or sit quietly with eyes closed in the breaks. Taking regular breaks will enhance your brain's capacity and make it ready to endure the exam stress.
7. Don't Be Monotonous
Leaving everything and only studying throughout the day for months can make you less enthusiastic and bored. Don't give up on your hobbies. You can follow them in your idle time to give diversity to your mind
Along with a good brain, exam toppers have some distinguished mantras to crack the exams with flying colours. We will go through the success stories of some CBSE class 12th toppers from different years to get some preparation tips to score 99+ in boards:
"It's the action, not the fruit of the action, that's important." - M.K. Gandhi
Living by these famous words, Sukriti Gupta - CBSE topper of 2016, scored a whopping 99.4% in the class 12th final exam. She credits her success to her school and tuition teachers as well as her efforts devoted to self-study. All three play an equally important role in grabbing those extra marks than others. Sukriti Gupta suggests following NCERT strictly and not falling in the 14-hours a day study doom.
Replace social media with music
Hansika Shukla - CBSE topper 2019 says she had cut off the time spent on social media and spent it on listening to music. Listening to music, playing, or watching a sport are productive ways of passing idle time. Scrolling through the Instagram pages and WhatsApp chats in between your breaks can diverge your entire focus and waste a precious amount of time. Taking tuition isn't necessary. How much time you devote to self-study is the only thing that matters.
Be consistent and efficient
Tushar Singh- CBSE topper 2020 says not to be very hard on oneself. He suggests making one simple plan which should be consistently followed throughout the year. Students can study less than the fixed hours on some days. They just need to be consistent and focused.
It's just like any other exam
CBSE topper, 2018 - Meghna Srivastava advises the future board exam candidates to not hope for an end-moment miracle. Treat the board exam just like any other school exam and focus on the process. Practice hard, make notes, and work on your weak areas.
Study for short duration
3rd topper of CBSE 12th exam, 2017- Aditya Jain shared that studying for continuous 10-12 hours mostly gives nothing but a tired mind. On the other hand, studying for shorter durations like 2 hours on a continuous basis enhances the capacity of the brain, and it can function efficiently. Taking breaks after every 2 hours helps retain more of whatever is studied throughout. However long you study, you should study with full focus, be it 5 or 8 hours a day.
